RISE Scholar Spotlight - Spirit

The sun may have been hiding behind the clouds earlier this week, but that didn’t stop our seniors from shining! Despite some drizzle, the Class of 2025 showed up to celebrate the start of the last three months of their high school journey.
Through rain or shine, this class is ready to make the most of every moment.💙

Wrapping up their handwriting analysis unit, Ms. Foley’s Forensic Science students explored paper chromatography to analyze ink from four different black markers. This technique is commonly used in forensic investigations to compare pens found at a crime scene or suspect’s residence to the ink used on a questionable document. By separating the ink into its components, students saw firsthand how forensic experts analyze evidence to solve cases! #PanthersRISE

RISE Scholar Spotlight - Excellence

Shoutout to Mr. Zanone's Transition students—Cole, Ricardo, and Jonathan—for lending a helping hand! They assisted Ms. Obermiller in unloading a generous donation of weights for our school from the Educational Foundation. #PanthersRISE

Building on their handwriting analysis skills, Ms. Foley’s Forensic Science students took on a new challenge—forgery! In this activity, students attempted to forge each other’s signatures, then used the 12 characteristics of handwriting analysis to compare their actual signatures to the forgeries. By examining key details like slant, spacing, and pressure, they put their investigative skills to work to spot the fakes! #PanthersRISE

CTE Month Spotlight - Students in Ms. Robinson’s Early Childhood Education Level 2 class have been applying their lesson planning and early childhood development skills by creating and implementing lessons for Pediatric Dentist Awareness! Last week, they researched and designed age-appropriate lesson plans incorporating all five learning domains. This week, they are bringing those plans to life with engaging activities promoting dental health and wellness. We love seeing our students implement their learning and make a real-world impact! #PanthersRISE

RISE Scholar Spotlight - Integrity

Ms. Griner’s Holocaust Studies students had an impactful experience as they connected via Zoom with Ms. Rachel Loria, a second-generation Holocaust survivor. She shared the incredible survival story of her father, Roger Loria, detailing his family’s journey through Nazi-occupied Europe, their escapes from deportation camps, and their resilience in the face of unimaginable hardships. The students asked thoughtful questions, and the opportunity deepened their understanding of history and its lasting impact.
A huge thank you to Ms. Loria for sharing her family’s story. #PanthersRISE

CTE Month Spotlight - Last week, seniors in Ms. Robinson’s Early Childhood Education Level 4 class took an essential step toward their CDA Certifications by becoming CPR-certified! In alignment with CTE standards, they demonstrated first aid techniques and practiced CPR/AED procedures for infants, children, and adults. Special thanks to AD Stutz for providing this valuable training! These skills will support their future careers and help them be prepared to respond to emergencies. #PanthersRISE

Ms. Derousie’s IB Chemistry students conducted an exciting lab where they observed a rainbow of indicator colors while testing the resistance of two buffer systems to pH changes. By adding acids and bases to their solutions, students witnessed firsthand how buffers help maintain stability, reinforcing their understanding of this essential chemical concept. #PanthersRISE

RISE Scholar Spotlight - Responsibility

Last week, Ms. Foley’s Forensic Science students sharpened their investigative skills with handwriting analysis activities. In this challenge, students examined two notes written by different U.S. presidents and used four presidential signatures along with 12 key handwriting characteristics to determine the author of each note. To complete the task, they had to justify their conclusions with evidence from their analysis—just like real forensic experts! #PanthersRISE

Ms. Klaes’s Astronomy students explored how seismic waves help scientists determine the composition of celestial bodies' interiors. Using slinkies to simulate wave movement, students observed how different materials affect wave behavior and transmission. This hands-on activity brought planetary science to life, helping students understand how we study the unseen depths of planets and moons! #PanthersRISE

Exploring Genetics with “Ferrets in a Bottle -
Our Biology students recently took on the “Ferrets in a Bottle” activity, simulating the effects of a genetic bottleneck in Black-footed Ferret populations. Using beans to represent a variety of traits, students observed how population genetics shift when traits are reduced due to environmental pressures. Afterward, they analyzed five survival scenarios to determine whether the population could persist. Hands-on learning at its best! #PanthersRISE

RISE Scholar Spotlight - Responsibility

Ms. Kerr’s 10th-grade English students took a deep dive into historical rhetoric, comparing FDR’s speech after the attack on Pearl Harbor to President Bush’s address following 9/11. Using a graphic organizer, students worked in groups to analyze central ideas, supporting details, and rhetorical appeals in each speech, uncovering powerful similarities in leadership during times of crisis. By making connections between the past and present, our Panthers are sharpening their critical thinking skills and preparing for success on their upcoming state assessments! #PanthersRISE
