Mrs. Derousie’s Honors Biology students recently put their scientific skills to the test as they explored the microscopic world. Using microscopes, they carefully observed plant and bacterial cells and estimated their sizes, applying what they’ve learned in class to a real, hands-on investigation. This activity not only strengthened their understanding of cell structures but also provided them with valuable practice in measurement and analysis, key skills for future laboratory work. #PanthersRISE

Our English Language Learner students had a blast reviewing “WH” questions; the kinds of questions that start with words like who, what, when, where, and why. Using a board game, students practiced creating and answering these questions as their game pieces landed on different prompts. The activity pushed students to think critically, build vocabulary, discuss their answers in English, and finally write them in complete sentences. #PanthersRISE

Ms. Michaels' 11th-grade ELA students dug deep into Act 1 of The Crucible! Working in pairs, they explored character motives, rhetorical strategies, and conflicts while backing up their analysis with direct textual evidence. This rigorous activity challenged students to think critically and connect their learning to bigger themes. #PanthersRISE

Ms. Fortner’s Chemistry students conducted a chromatography experiment to explore how mixtures can be separated into their individual components. Using this laboratory technique, students practiced identifying how substances move at different speeds through a medium, revealing unique chemical properties such as solubility and polarity. Hands-on labs like this help our Panthers see science come to life while building essential problem-solving and analysis skills! #PanthersRISE

What a smelly day in Honors Biology! Ms. Derousie’s students kicked off a 4-week lab investigation by taking a big whiff of cabbage. This hands-on experiment will test how lactic acid fermentation changes the pH of cabbage over time. From gathering data to analyzing results, students will be diving deep into the science of fermentation, critical thinking, and real-world applications of biology. #PanthersRISE

Mr. Zaner’s Business Management & Law and Business Ownership students pitched their plan to Principal Murphy and AD Stutz for RISE Outfitters, our future student-run school store. They’ve formed cross-functional teams for every part of development—product sourcing & merchandising, marketing & branding, finance & budgeting, operations & logistics, store design & layout, and data/market research.

Launched on day two of school, teams have been measuring the space, brainstorming, and conducting market research to refine the proposal. Authentic CTE learning in action—entrepreneurship, collaboration, and Panther Pride. #PanthersRISE

To celebrate Constitution Week, our Government students had a special opportunity to learn from Tara S. Green, Clay County Clerk of Court and Comptroller. Ms. Green shared an overview of her department’s responsibilities and led an engaging discussion on the U.S. Constitution, highlighting the importance of our 6th Amendment rights. This partnership connected classroom learning to real-world expertise, helping students see how the Constitution is applied in their daily lives.

We’re grateful for community partners like Ms. Green who enrich our Panthers’ learning experiences! #PanthersRISE

Mr. Ley’s IB Senior History students dove into primary source analysis with a creative twist! Using documents tied to a legendary 1977 senior prank, students put on their historian hats to determine “who done it?” They examined authorship, context, and corroboration between sources, then crafted arguments supported by evidence. The lively debates and critical thinking on display showed how history comes alive when students investigate, question, and justify their ideas with proof. #PanthersRISE

Mr. Ley, IB History When I entered your classroom, students were actively engaged in analyzing primary source documents with the intriguing twist of solving a 1977 senior prank mystery. The level of focus was evident as groups discussed the origins, context, and credibility of different sources in their effort to determine “who done it.” The classroom atmosphere was collaborative and energetic, with students questioning, debating, and supporting their ideas with evidence. This structure encouraged them to think like historians while also making the activity interactive and fun. The lesson provided high instructional value by blending rigorous source evaluation with the creativity of solving a mystery. Students were not only practicing critical skills needed for IB assessments but also developing confidence in constructing and defending arguments. Glows: Students were highly engaged and eager to participate in lively debates. Activity encouraged deep analysis of sources, going beyond surface-level details. Lesson design made learning both rigorous and memorable. Grows: Consider building in a short reflection piece at the end so students can connect the historical thinking skills practiced to their upcoming IB assessments. A brief share-out of group conclusions could further highlight the variety of interpretations and reinforce the importance of evidence-based reasoning.
