The Book Bistro was a resounding success! On Monday and Tuesday, our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders “tasted” a fantastic selection of novels to vote on which stories we will read together in our literacy elective class this year. Giving students a voice in their reading journey sets the tone for an incredible year of literacy, discovery, and deep discussion. It was amazing to see their enthusiasm as they created the official reading menus of their top picks!

🚦 RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT: Grammar Edition! 🚦
We put our literacy skills through a rigorous driving test today in OLJ’s Literacy Elective classes! Our students had to prove they could spot grammar “potholes”. The rules were simple:
🟢 Green Light: The sentence is good to go!
🔴 Red Light: STOP! There’s a grammatical error.
Students who held up a Red card had to explain the "traffic violation" (missing commas, rogue quotation marks, or capitalization crashes) to move forward. Loved seeing them race to explain why a sentence had to hit the brakes!
Our road to literacy was filled with impressive drivers! Check out the photos featuring our winners and the action from each class!
