When virtual learning meets real-world adventure, amazing things happen!
We have to showcase this incredible work from CVA Outdoor Education student Aiden Kile, who took his learning all the way to Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica!
For his “Take a Hike” assignment, Aiden didn't just complete a hike, he created an impressive presentation documenting the entire experience. He shared what he learned about Arenal Volcano and its rainforest ecosystem, reflected on the challenges of hiking through rocky volcanic terrain, and captured some incredible wildlife along the way, including a strawberry poison dart frog, basilisk, white-nosed coati, and even a terciopelo snake!
Aiden reflected that the experience gave him a greater appreciation for the diverse ecosystems he was able to explore, and rated the challenging adventure an 8/10!
We love seeing our students take what they are learning beyond the screen and connect it to experiences in the real world. Outstanding work, Aiden! And thank you to Ms. Smith for sharing this one with us; we can see why you were impressed!

Lab Facilitators play such an important role in the success of our CVA Flex students! They are the boots on the ground in our partner schools, encouraging students, monitoring progress, celebrating successes, helping students work through challenges, and partnering with CVA teachers and staff to keep students moving toward their goals.
We are excited to kick off our 2026–2027 Lab Facilitator of the Month recognition by celebrating Felicia Singleton-Coleman of Orange Park High School! Felicia creates a lab where students are surrounded by encouragement. From positive notes at their desks to individual conferences, she makes sure her students know someone believes in them.
She checks on every student, every day, not only to see how they are progressing academically, but also to see how they are doing personally. She celebrates accomplishments, recognizes growth, and patiently works with reluctant learners to help them build confidence and continue moving toward the ultimate goal: earning their high school diploma.

High school students, here’s your chance to give back to your community, build leadership skills, and support your educational goals!
The Student Service Challenge is now accepting applications. This exciting partnership between Clay County District Schools, Clay Education Foundation, the Florida Department of Education, and the Florida Lottery gives eligible high school students the opportunity to complete 20 or more new hours of community service and write an essay focused on civic responsibility and leadership.
Upon acceptance and completion, a limited number of eligible students may earn $500 toward their educational goals.

⏰ Applications close: Monday, August 31 at 5:00 PM
📢 Accepted students will be notified: September 1, 2026

What happens behind the scenes at a virtual school? A lot of conversations about students.
Each month, CVA administrators meet virtually with each of our teachers for dedicated time to talk about their work with students. We look at data, celebrate successes, problem-solve challenges, and discuss ways we can help every student continue moving forward.
These conversations allow us to look beyond the numbers and talk about the individual students behind them. Who is thriving? Who needs us? What is working? What can we do differently? They also give us valuable one-on-one time to listen to and support our teachers, celebrate what is going well, and help problem-solve when challenges arise.
Because whether our classrooms are virtual or brick-and-mortar, the most important part of the work is the same: knowing our students, supporting our teachers, and working together to help every student succeed.

What do you do when our outstanding virtual students show up on campus for PM 1 testing…and the testing program decides not to cooperate? You make the best of it!
While today certainly did not go as planned, we absolutely LOVED having our CVA students on campus! We are so thankful for the patience, flexibility, and positive attitudes shown by our students and families, especially those who made the trip but were unable to test because of the technical issues.
For the students who were able to get into testing? They got an extra adventure when we had an extended power outage, too! Apparently, PM 1 testing day wanted to keep us on our toes!
Through it all, our students were wonderful, and our families were incredibly understanding. Thank you for rolling with us and making the best of an unexpected situation.
And we have to say…Principal Murphy was VERY happy to have students in the building today! Seeing our Vipers walk the halls, talking with them, and getting to spend a little time together absolutely made her day. ❤️ Virtual school may mean we don't see our students on campus every day, but days like today remind us just how special it is when we get to be together.

“Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently.”
As we head into our second week at CVA, remember that you don't have to have everything figured out yet. You don't have to be perfect, and you don't have to do everything at once.
What matters is that you keep showing up.
Log in. Check your pace. Complete the next assignment. Ask your teacher for help when you need it. Then come back and do it again tomorrow.
One of the greatest benefits of virtual learning is flexibility, but with that flexibility comes responsibility. The small choices you make each day will add up over time.
So, if your first week didn't go exactly as planned, that's okay. Today is a new opportunity to get back on track. And if you had a great first week, keep that momentum going!
At CVA, success isn't about being perfect. It's about making progress, one day and one assignment at a time.

Join Our School Advisory Council
Have a voice in the future of Clay Virtual Academy! We invite parents, guardians, and students to serve on our School Advisory Council (SAC). The SAC provides valuable input on school improvement efforts and helps strengthen the partnership between our school and families.
All meetings are held virtually via Google Meet at 2:00 p.m.
