Students in Ms. Michaels and **Mr. Gonzalez’s Junior English class were engaged in a powerful lesson using Iceberg Theory while analyzing The Leap by Louise Erdrich. Through collaboration, discussion, and text-based evidence, students explored the difference between what is explicitly stated in a story and what is implied beneath the surface.
Using group tasks, written responses, and meaningful academic conversations, students strengthened critical reading skills by making inferences, supporting claims with evidence, and explaining their thinking. Lessons like this prepare students not only for assessments, but for deeper understanding and thoughtful analysis.
