Congratulations to Matthew, our student winner for Best Red, White & Blue Spirit in honor of the heroes of September 11th! Matthew’s patriotic photo captured the spirit of a day dedicated to remembering the lives lost and honoring the courage, sacrifice, and service of so many.
As our winner, Matthew received a $25 Chick-fil-A gift card! Thank you to Matthew and all of our CVA students, families, faculty, and staff who participated. Even though we learn and work from different places, we came together to show that CVA remembers, CVA honors, and CVA will never forget.

On Heroes’ Day, we are especially proud to recognize two veterans who continue to serve others through their work as lab facilitators with our CVA Flex students: Melissa Morris at Orange Park High School and Kim Saddler at Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High School.
Both Melissa and Kim proudly served in the United States Air Force, and today, they continue that spirit of service by supporting and encouraging our students. As we honor the heroes of September 11th and all those who have answered the call to serve, we are grateful to have two of those heroes as part of our CVA community. Thank you, Melissa and Kim, for your service to our country and for the difference you continue to make for our students. ❤️🤍💙

On this National Day of Remembrance, our students and staff reflect on the selflessness, unity, and resilience that defined our country following September 11, 2001. Through meaningful classroom reflection and age-appropriate civics lessons, we ensure that the legacy of these heroes inspires the next generation.

Great things happen when educators come together with a shared focus on students! Our Clay Virtual Academy School-Based Leadership Team spent time virtually digging into our weekly student data, reviewing our reflection and student success tools, and discussing how our PLCs can use this information to identify needs, celebrate progress, and intervene early when a student needs additional support.
In a virtual school, we may not see our students walking through the hallways each day, but that makes it even more important that we are intentional about knowing our students, noticing the data, and staying connected.
We are thankful for a leadership team that is willing to collaborate, ask questions, reflect on our practices, and continually look for ways to better serve our students and teachers.

When virtual learning meets real-world adventure, amazing things happen!
We have to showcase this incredible work from CVA Outdoor Education student Aiden Kile, who took his learning all the way to Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica!
For his “Take a Hike” assignment, Aiden didn't just complete a hike, he created an impressive presentation documenting the entire experience. He shared what he learned about Arenal Volcano and its rainforest ecosystem, reflected on the challenges of hiking through rocky volcanic terrain, and captured some incredible wildlife along the way, including a strawberry poison dart frog, basilisk, white-nosed coati, and even a terciopelo snake!
Aiden reflected that the experience gave him a greater appreciation for the diverse ecosystems he was able to explore, and rated the challenging adventure an 8/10!
We love seeing our students take what they are learning beyond the screen and connect it to experiences in the real world. Outstanding work, Aiden! And thank you to Ms. Smith for sharing this one with us; we can see why you were impressed!

Lab Facilitators play such an important role in the success of our CVA Flex students! They are the boots on the ground in our partner schools, encouraging students, monitoring progress, celebrating successes, helping students work through challenges, and partnering with CVA teachers and staff to keep students moving toward their goals.

NOW OPEN: Student Service Challenge Applications!
High school students, here’s your chance to give back to your community, build leadership skills, and support your educational goals!
The Student Service Challenge is now accepting applications. This exciting partnership between Clay County District Schools, Clay Education Foundation, the Florida Department of Education, and the Florida Lottery gives eligible high school students the opportunity to complete 20 or more new hours of community service and write an essay focused on civic responsibility and leadership.
Upon acceptance and completion, a limited number of eligible students may earn $500 toward their educational goals.
Important Dates:

⏰ Applications close: Monday, August 31 at 5:00 PM
📢 Accepted students will be notified: September 1, 2026

Each month, CVA administrators meet virtually with each of our teachers for dedicated time to talk about their work with students. We look at data, celebrate successes, problem-solve challenges, and discuss ways we can help every student continue moving forward.
These conversations allow us to look beyond the numbers and talk about the individual students behind them. Who is thriving? Who needs us? What is working? What can we do differently? They also give us valuable one-on-one time to listen to and support our teachers, celebrate what is going well, and help problem-solve when challenges arise.
Because whether our classrooms are virtual or brick-and-mortar, the most important part of the work is the same: knowing our students, supporting our teachers, and working together to help every student succeed.
