In Mr. Gann’s 6th-grade math live lesson, students weren’t just watching someone else work problems; they were thinking of themselves. Mr. Gann began with a spiral review of previously taught, state-tested skills, assigning each student a problem to solve and explain. Throughout the lesson, he used questioning, prompts, and cues to support students while reinforcing precise mathematical vocabulary.
As students moved into the day’s learning, they continued to solve, respond, explain, and analyze, including identifying and correcting an error in another student’s work. It was a great example of how intentional structures in a virtual classroom can create individual accountability, active participation, and rigorous mathematical thinking.

Walk into Ms. Daise’s lab, and you immediately see what makes it special. The space is warm and welcoming, and so is Ms. Daise! Throughout the lab, you’ll find Ms. Daise moving from student to student, checking in, answering questions, and providing the support they need to keep moving forward. Whether she is sitting beside a student working through a challenging math problem, helping with an assignment submission, reviewing a Pace Chart, or celebrating a success, Ms. Daise makes sure her students know they have someone in their corner.
It is hard to believe this is Ms. Daise’s first year in the lab because she already works like a seasoned pro! Her patience, positivity, and willingness to go the extra mile are making a difference for students every day.

Our 8th-grade Environmental Science students actively thought, explained, and engaged with the content during last week’s live lesson! Students selected questions, developed their own responses, and reviewed their peers’ work for accuracy and clarity, using feedback to strengthen and revise their thinking. Throughout the lesson, Ms. Derousie used questioning and targeted feedback to move students beyond identifying concepts to explaining mechanisms, analyzing cause and effect, and justifying their thinking.
We loved seeing our 8th graders actively engaged in a cycle of think → respond → evaluate → revise as they deepened their understanding of environmental science concepts. A great example of how CVA live lessons create opportunities for student voice, collaboration, feedback, and rigorous thinking in the virtual classroom!

On Friday, we slowed down, gathered around the table, and celebrated some incredible members of our CVA family! We honored our Teacher of the Year, Dawn Smith, our outstanding Teacher of the Year finalists, Ashlei and Carol, and our School-Related Employee of the Year, Jessica Pajuelo. Each of these women represents so much of what makes CVA special; their dedication, care for others, and commitment to our students and families make a difference every day.
Assistant Principal Garcia made the celebration even more special and truly outdid herself! At Dawn’s request, Linda prepared an amazing Cuban lunch for everyone to enjoy. It was absolutely delicious and truly a labor of love. From the food to the flowers to the time spent together around the table, it was a wonderful reminder that some of the best celebrations are the ones filled with good food, laughter, and great people.
Congratulations again to Dawn, Ashlei, Carol, and Jessica! We are so fortunate to have each of you as part of the CVA family.

Check out this incredible learning space for our CVA Flex and Edgenuity students at Fleming Island High School! Lab Facilitator Heather Scharf created a warm, welcoming, organized space designed with students in mind. From encouraging messages and comfortable spaces to dedicated areas for DBA calls and focused work, every detail helps create an environment where students can feel supported and ready to learn.
Our lab facilitators play such an important role in helping students stay focused, engaged, and moving forward in their virtual courses. Heather’s classroom is a wonderful example of how a welcoming environment and a caring adult can make virtual learning feel personal and connected.

One of our English teachers, Ms. Hall, recently connected with a student over the poetry he writes. He was so excited to share that he read her some of his favorite lines.
That may seem like a small moment, but it represents something much bigger. In a virtual school, connection doesn’t always happen in a classroom or a hallway. It happens when a teacher takes the time to listen, a student feels comfortable enough to share, and learning becomes personal.

On November 3, Clay County voters will consider the renewal of the existing One Mill ad valorem funding for four years (July 1, 2027 – June 30, 2031).
Because this measure is a renewal of the existing operating millage, it continues current funding without increasing tax rates. Revenues are strictly dedicated to two operational priorities:
School Safety: Funding law enforcement contracts for campus officers.
Employee Compensation: Providing competitive pay to retain and attract quality teachers and support staff.
