This year's September VOLUNTARY STEAM Family Project will be going home in today's Tuesday folders. This month's challenge is: What can you do with an unsharpened pencil? To participate in this home challenge, you will need to create something (anything) using an unsharpened pencil! Completed projects can be turned into the Media Center by Tuesday, September 30th.

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, and these projects are a terrific way to connect critical higher level thinking processes between school and home. Projects vary to promote inductive (inventive) thinking skills that will result in a wide variety of end product designs, to deductive thinking skills that instruct students to create similar products using their choice of designs and materials. As students construct their creations, they are encouraged to plan, test, and improve designs to the best of their ability.

Project instructions are simple and require nothing more than items around your home, such as paper goods, materials from nature, and basic crafting supplies. Your child is permitted to design and construct their project on his or her own, or with the assistance of family members. If you choose to assist your child with his or her creation, here are some guided questions that will help stimulate higher level STEAM thinking:

*What can your project be used for? What purpose does it serve?
*What problem could your project solve?
*How can you test your project to see how it works?
*How can you improve your project to make it better?

I hope you and your child will enjoy constructing STEAM family projects together this year. Completed projects will be displayed in the library and on the school Facebook page. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

We are excited about our upcoming book fair that will be held at our school on September 8th-17th!  The book fair is an optional event that fosters an excitement around literacy and allows students to purchase books for their enjoyment. There is an opportunity for parents to preview the book fair contents online at https://preview.scholasticbookfairs.com/k6-custom/fa1.

In addition, we will be hosting a family night where parents and guardians can bring their child(ren) to review, select, and purchase books. Our school will hold this event during Open House on September 11th at 4:30 - 7:00 PM.  We hope to see you there!

We are LIFTING the hold and resuming normal activity as the lightning has moved out of range! Clay Hill is ALL CLEAR as of 2:26 pm, but we continue to monitor radar. Thank you!

Good morning, Clay Hill Parents! It's another Weather Watch day. We'll keep you posted, but please keep an eye on the local radar and forecasts today. There is no need to pick up your child early, but should lightning occur during dismissal, please expect delays as we must shelter in place.

CHE Parents! Local forecasts predict a 40%-60% chance of showers at dismissal with the potential of pop-up thunderstorms. This could impact dismissal and present delays. Please monitor the radar with us as the day progresses, and make appropriate arrangements, as needed. Thank you!

Update... As of 3:40pm
We are still under a Shelter in Place due to inclement weather in the area. We will dismiss as soon as we get an all clear (no lightening within an 8 miles radius for 30 minutes). The safety of all our students and staff are our top priority, we appreciate your patience.
