GREEN COVE SPRINGS JUNIOR HIGH RECEIVES ASTHMA–FRIENDLY SCHOOL AWARD FROM THE FLORIDA ASTHMA COALTION
The Florida Asthma Coalition is honoring Green Cove Springs Junior High in Clay County for their dedication to students and the community for the work that has been accomplished to earn the Asthma-Friendly School award from the Florida Asthma Coalition.
Green Cove Springs Junior High has earned Bronze recognition by completing six out of the ten Asthma Friendly School criteria, which were designed to create a safe and healthy environment for students with asthma. Bronze criteria included: establishing an Asthma Leadership Team, professional development for faculty and staff, providing access to medications for students with asthma, providing student-centered asthma support, increasing asthma awareness, and providing physical education and activity opportunities for students with asthma.
Asthma is the leading cause of preventable hospitalizations, school absenteeism and work-related lung disease in Florida. In addition, asthma incurs high costs, in terms of the costs of care, lost workdays and productivity, and lower quality of life for persons with asthma and their families. The Florida Asthma Coalition works to improve asthma outcomes and reduce associated costs for Floridians through various interventions.
