RHS Advanced Placement (AP)
Each AP course is modeled upon a comparable college course, and college and university faculty play a vital role in ensuring that AP courses align with college-level standards. Talented and dedicated AP teachers help AP students in classrooms worldwide develop and apply the content knowledge and skills they will need later in college.
Each AP course concludes with a college-level assessment developed and scored by college and university faculty and experienced AP teachers. AP Exams are essential to the AP experience, enabling students to demonstrate their mastery of college-level coursework. More than 90 percent of four-year colleges and universities in the United States grant students credit, placement, or both based on successful AP Exam scores. Universities in more than 60 countries recognize AP Exam scores in the admission process and award credit and placement for qualifying scores. Visit our website to view AP credit and placement policies at more than 1,000 colleges and universities.
At Ridgeview, we aim for students to take the most rigorous courses possible, considering prerequisites and placement criteria. Research shows that students taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school are much more likely to complete a bachelor’s degree within five years of graduation. Colleges know this research and look for students who have taken AP courses. Counselors tell us that it is better to have a “B” or “C” in an AP or honors class than to have an “A” in a general track class because it shows colleges that the student understands the level of work expected in college and will work to be successful. Honors-level foundation courses offer great preparation for advanced placement courses.
