Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Lakeside Junior High, home of the Gators! Lakeside has been an “A” school for the past 19 years, and we plan to keep the tradition going as we move into our 2019-2020 school year. We are also a Cambridge International School, where we offer the Pre-AICE Curriculum.
I’d like to introduce myself as your new principal, Ivin J. Gunder. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography from Jacksonville University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. In my twelve years as a classroom teacher, I focused closely on reading and literacy skills and established a positive learning culture by laying the foundation that every student can succeed, a mindset that I feel very strongly about and plan to continue at Lakeside.
I had the opportunity to begin my career as an administrator here at Lakeside Junior High, where I served as both the assistant principal and vice principal from 2014-2017. I moved on to Oakleaf High School in 2017, where I served until 2019 as vice principal, building the master schedule and providing in-service opportunities that encouraged teachers to grow and excel in the classroom.
I am honored to be able to return to Lakeside Junior High in my current role as principal and to be able to bring my positive experience with me. I will continue to engage in daily classroom visits in order to provide meaningful feedback and support to a faculty excited to become more intentional in their classroom instruction and more compassionate in their leadership.
In closing, it is my honor to have an opportunity to give back what was so freely given to me by my teachers. There was a point in my life where I was that kid that was in the bottom quartile and did not care. I was fortunate to have caring and patient teachers that catapulted me on a different path. Growing up in the inner city of Jacksonville, Florida, there were many odds stacked against me. If I was able to overcome those odds, so are others.
