Clay County School District will close schools and district offices on Friday, September 2 due to expected dangerous weather conditions from Tropical Storm Hermine. The National Weather Service indicates that the strongest winds and greatest tornado risk in our area are predicted as students would ordinarily be in transit and arriving at school in the morning. All afterschool activities are cancelled this afternoon, and all extracurricular activities, including YMCA of Florida's First Coast PrYmeTime, and athletic events scheduled for Friday are cancelled to encourage parents and students to stay off the road in case there is flooding or debris after the storm.
A general/special needs storm shelter will open at Lake Asbury Junior High School at 5 p.m. today. No animals will be permitted at the shelter. Questions about the storm shelter should be directed to the Clay County, Florida Emergency Management at (904) 284-7703.
